PURPOSE AND FUNCTION
Releasing, Refreshing, Reconciling
These 3 words sum up the After-Care Ministries Christian faith ministry.

We were formed for the purpose of assisting offenders and ex-offenders. Our goal is to see them transformed by God’s Word and embark successfully in a wholesome life-style, free of repeat offences.  The bible is clear …

“Don’t forget about those in prison. Suffer with them as though you were there yourself. Share the sorrow of those being mistreated, as though you feel their pain in your own bodies.” - Hebrews 13:3 (NLT)

“God places the lonely in families; He sets the prisoners free and gives them joy.” - Psalm 68:6 (NLT)

The after-care needs are numerous and significant and the opportunities for Christian service virtually unlimited.

They include the following:

· pointing individuals to the transforming power of Christ and

· assisting the new believers in one-on-one on going, long term friendships, providing discipling and guidance through incarceration and the transition to freedom.

While some commit their lives to Christ and make new beginnings while incarcerated, this apparent success is not translated into transformed, lasting commitments in the past. With alarming regularity the inmates have tended to drift towards the friendships and vices that have enslaved them in the past only to repeat offences leading to further charges and repeat prison sentencing.

We battle against the distressing statistic that Prison re-offending rates exceed 75%.

We desire to partner with all these churches and organisations who are involved in the Christian community; The needs include an army of volunteers to provide the discipleship, care and the nurture of people in need. Even more important, founded on a commitment to prayer; seeking wisdom and guidance, so that it might be a ministry of reconciliation.

Mission Statement

The mission of After-Care Ministry is to see the incarcerated and ex-offenders pointed to Christ, to disciple and to assist them in a successful transition to freedom.

In order to fulfil this statement, After-Care Ministries …

… will seek to provide Biblically-based counselling, mentoring and fellowship.

…  is committed to arranging for the personal mentor-ship of both the institutionalised and the released offender.

… is committed to partner with other agencies and Christian ministries to access appropriate community resources for participants.

From a funding perspective, the sources are varied. They include free will gifts, donations in kind, grants from corporations and individuals, and whatever other initiatives the board adopts to develop a resource base.

After-Care Ministries is a ministry of reconciliation and the participation of the volunteer is key to the success of the program. It is understood that the volunteers sought are mature, committed Christians, in good standing with their church, clear criminal record, strongly caring, and who have as their personal mission to see offenders come to faith in Christ. It is understood that volunteers will subscribe to After-Care Ministry’s Statement of Faith which is…

Statement of Faith

The following statements of faith are held fundamental to the After-Care Ministry program.

· The Holy Scriptures as originally given by God, divinely inspired, infallible, entirely trustworthy, and the only supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

· One God, eternally existent in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

· Our Lord Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh, His virgin birth, His sinless human life, His divine miracles, His atoning death and His resurrection, His ascension, His mediatorial work, and His personal return in power and glory.

· The salvation of lost and sinful man through the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, by faith apart from works, and regeneration by the Spirit.

· The Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the believer is enabled to live a holy life, to witness and work for the Lord Jesus Christ.

· The unity in the Spirit of all true believers, the church, the Body of Christ.

· The resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
